About Me
Hello! I'm Scarlett, a 22 year old artist based in the south west of the UK. I've loved making things since I was very young, causing me to take art for a couple of years in school. Unfortunately, I never enjoyed the way it was taught, so I decided not to continue with it academically and instead just draw here and there.
Around 4 years ago I started observational painting again after discovering gouache for the first time, and was reminded how much I enjoyed it. That quickly evolved into trying out an old set of my mum's oil paints - I've always had a particular love of art museums and older paintings, so oils were a medium I was very intrigued by. I was happy to find I thoroughly enjoyed painting with oils, due mainly to the texture and vibrancy of the paint, and basically haven't gone back since.
I take inspiration from many things, especially nature, but also the fantasy worlds of Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, which I grew up watching and loving; mythology (particularly Greek), folklore, the beautiful Studio Ghibli worlds and of course many paintings from artists throughout history. As a result, I don't tend to stick to one subject matter; I decided it was important to me that I could paint whatever I felt like.
I have spent the last 4 years reading, watching, researching and practicing to learn as much as I can about oil painting, and continue to do so. If you're interested, I keep my progress updated on my social media (@scarjart). If you have any questions, let me know!
